Pirate Pete!

Meet the new character that moved in with us!
It’s Pirate Pete!! Arrrgghh Matey!

Hannah gives Pete a love!
Yes, I have officially gone insane!
I found this fun puppet at a consignment shop and thought about what fun it would be with the kids. After our sessions with FOCUS I thought perhaps a character would help the kids articulate in a fun playful way their worries about Daddy, his safety, etc.
WOW! What a hit! It was a “random chance” that I happen to be in this consignment store, and that they had puppets, and a pirate one no less (as Jake’s favorite right now is Jake and the Neverland Pirates on the Disney channel) And of course this was anything but random…… 🙂
I love it when divine inspiration hits. We were chatting it up at the dinner table with Pirate Pete! The kids were happy to sit down with him while they ate! It was hilarious! After all, Pirate Pete sails the seven seas, matey and knows a thing or two about the sailor life! (Thank goodness I watch a lot of Deadliest Catch! It seems much of my “voice” for Pete is a mixture of cowboy, the Deadliest Catch captains, and Johnny Depp from Pirates of the Caribbean!)
Side note: when I was in high school, I volunteered for the fire department puppet program. We would go to all the area preschools teaching about fire safety through Sesame Street-caliber puppet shows. We also had clinics on effective “puppeteering”! While I won’t boast of my mad skillz with my hand up a puppet’s backside – I will say this: the skillz were “mad” enough to entertain and teach my 4 and 2 year olds! Talk about a skill I had no idea would come in so handy!
Welcome to the family Pirate Pete!
